This week's letter from Mrs Mayers...

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been wonderful to see all the children return with such energy and enthusiasm for the second half of the spring term. They have settled back into their school routines incredibly quickly, and there is already a fantastic buzz of learning across the classrooms.

You may have noticed some large deliveries of sand to our site this week! Our massive new sandpit is nearing completion and currently contains almost 40 tonnes of sand. We expect the project to be fully finished early next week, followed by a very exciting grand opening.

When you are dropping your children off next week, please do feel free to head down to the lower playground and have a look at this brilliant new addition to our outdoor space!

Our Nursery and Reception classes have jumped straight back into their Forest School sessions this week. Despite the constantly changing weather, the children have had a lovely time exploring the outdoors. A huge thank you goes to our fantastic Forest School Leader, Mr. Morris, for organising such fun, valuable, and enriching sessions for our youngest learners. His hard work ensures these sessions remain a highlight of the week!

This Sunday 1st March 2026, we will have our Family Mass at 9.30am in the church. This will be led by our fabulous Year 3 and 4 children. Please do join us if you can.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Warm regards

Hayley Mayers (Headteacher)

Our Year 5 artists have been busy exploring the diverse North American biomes through a stunning fusion of paint and stitchery. They layered bold acrylics with intricate hand-sewing, capturing everything from the essence of the icy Tundra to the lush Temperate Rainforests. While some took a realistic approach, others went abstract, using texture and thread to represent the "feeling" of the wild. #SWOY #Stwilliamofyork #catholicprimaryschool #SELondon #SE23 #lewisham #northamerica #biomes #stitching #artwork #accessart

Our Rights Respecting School Article of the Week is...

Article 14 - Freedom of thought, belief and religion.

Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights.

Our sign of the week has been...

In Assembly we have been thinking about... Lent

The children have been thinking about how they can help others as we move through the special time of Lent.

School Information / Reminders

A Quick Reminder: Water Bottles at School

As a reminder, we ask that children bring plastic water bottles only. Please ensure that metal bottles are not sent into school.

Why do we have this rule?

We have this rule in place with the safety of our pupils and the care of our school environment in mind:

  • Metal bottles are significantly heavier than plastic ones. We have had instances where dropped metal bottles have caused injuries or "stubbed toes" during busy classroom transitions.

  • Metal bottles are often more prone to leaking in bags or when knocked over, which unfortunately causes lasting damage to our classroom carpets and school books.

  • Plastic bottles are much lighter for the children to carry throughout the day and are much quieter if they accidentally take a tumble!

We appreciate your continued support and cooperation in following this guidance to help keep our learning environment safe and dry.

A note from the Church...

Training for new Altar Servers

We welcome all children in Year 4 and above who have celebrated their First Eucharist to join our parish serving team.  We'll be running a training session for new servers on Saturday 7th March at 11am. Please email us at swoy.altarserving@gmail.com if your child would like to come along or you want to find out more. You can also just come along on the day but it helps us if we know in advance how many children we'll have. The session will last 1-1.5 hours. There's 10-15 minute talk with parents at the beginning and you can then either stay and wait in church or go and come back at the end.

Beavers Logo

The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group. Beaver Scouts are young people aged between 6 and 8 years old.  For fun, friendship and activities that get you thinking as well as doing.

Our parish Scout Group meet on Thursday evenings (term time only) at Lewisham Scouts DHQ on St Germans Road.

We have a few spaces for new members who are turning 6 to join our Beaver Colony.  Check out our website http://www.12thforesthill.scoutsonline.co.uk/  and get on the waiting list now.

Adults - if you have a skill you could share with us, please get in touch.  We all love learning.  Could you be one of our volunteers with Beavers, Cubs or even our new Scout Troop we'd like to re-open in October?  Could you be a group Trustee?  Training and support provided.

Get in touch if you would like to find out more ahesketh@12thswoyscouts.org
