This week's letter from Mrs Mayers...

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to start with a massive THANK YOU to everyone for supporting our Summer Fair last Sunday. It was such a lovely day seeing our whole community come together to celebrate our International Day and Summer Fair. A particular thank you to SWOYSA for organising such a successful event - they raised over £2,000 which is a fantastic achievement!

It’s been a pleasure to welcome back some of our former pupils this week as part of their work experience placements. Five students who attended our school have returned as confident, caring young people, and they’ve been a fantastic help around the school. It’s been lovely to see them giving back to the community where their journey began.

We’ve also had a busy and exciting week with new beginnings. We welcomed some of our new Reception children into their classroom for the first time. It was wonderful to meet the families who will be joining our school community in September, and we’re looking forward to getting to know them even more in the months ahead.

Teachers have been hard at work preparing end-of-year reports, which you will receive today. You should receive a paper copy of your child’s report, and it will also be emailed to you in due course for your convenience.

Finally, we’re delighted to share that Miss Ogston will be returning from maternity leave next week – we look forward to having her back with us!

There are lots of exciting events next week so please do take a moment to read through the plans for each event below. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards

Hayley Mayers (Headteacher)

Sports Day (Reception - Year 6)

A quick reminder that our Sports Day is taking place on Wednesday 16th July at Catford Cyphers Cricket Ground.

We will be leaving school at 10:15am, ready to start the activities at 11:00am.

We are looking for parent helpers to walk with us to the sports ground. If you’re able to help, please let us know by completing the form, which also includes the permission slip for your child to attend.

Parents are very welcome to join us at the sports ground and can take their children home from there after lunchtime if they wish.

Year 6 Leavers' Events

Yr6 Leavers' Play - Beauty & the Beast

We are excited to invite you to this year’s Year 6 Leavers’ Play, a magical production of Beauty and the Beast, taking place on Tuesday 15th July at 2:00pm and again at 6:00pm.

The Year 6 children, along with Mrs Shanahan, Ms Webster and Mr Wilkie, have been working incredibly hard to bring this classic tale to life on stage.

It promises to be a wonderful celebration of talent, teamwork, and creativity. We would love for as many families as possible to come along and support our Year 6 children in their final performance at St William of York Primary School.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Yr6 Leavers' Disco

We’re excited to invite all Year 6 children and their families to celebrate the end of their primary school journey at the Year 6 Leavers’ Disco!

📅 Date: Thursday 17th July

🕕 Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm

📍 Location: St William of York Primary School Hall

This special event is a chance for our wonderful Year 6 pupils to celebrate together with music, dancing, and lots of fun as they say goodbye to primary school and look ahead to their next adventure.

Please bring your own refreshments and snacks for the evening.

Children are not allowed to bring a mobile phone with them as we do not allow children to have mobile phones in school.

🎈 Please note: This event is for Year 6 children only – no younger siblings or children from other year groups will be permitted.

We can’t wait to celebrate with our Year 6 stars!

Yr6 Leavers' Mass

You are warmly invited to join us for our Year 6 Leavers’ Mass on Friday 18th July at 10:30am, taking place at St William of York Catholic Church.

This special Mass will be a time of reflection, gratitude, and celebration as we mark the final day for our Year 6 pupils at St William of York School. The children will have the opportunity to share some of their special memories from their time with us, and we will come together as a school community to give thanks and wish them well on the next step of their journey.

We hope you can join us for this meaningful occasion.

Miss Perry is an experienced teacher and we are confident she will be a great addition to the school community.

Bring a Carrier Bag - Thursday

As we approach the end of term, children will be bringing home their school books on Thursday.

To help with this, we kindly ask that each child brings in a strong carrier bag to school on Thursday next week.

This will make it much easier for them to carry their books home safely and comfortably.

Rights Respecting Schools Award

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our school has achieved the Bronze Award as a Rights Respecting School! 🥉

This is a fantastic achievement and marks the first stage in our journey to becoming a fully accredited Rights Respecting School. A huge thank you goes to Ms Rolt and Mrs Jones, who have worked incredibly hard to lead and support the school in embedding children’s rights into our ethos and daily life.

Congratulations to ...

Congratulations to Gabriella in Yr4 who recently achieved recognition and an award in her gymnastics classes! Well done Gabriella - keep it up!

RSE Curriculum

Over the past few weeks, the children have been working through their RSE curriculum topics. The RSE curriculum covers a wide range of topics, e.g. relationships, staying safe, keeping your body healthy, consent, changes to our bodies as we get older etc.

We follow a scheme of work called 'Life to the Full', which is produced by Ten Ten. This programme is approved by the diocese and teaches children about key topics in an age-appropriate way.

We believe it’s important for parents and carers to know what’s being taught and to feel confident supporting these conversations at home. You can explore the programme content and resources using the Parent Portal with the following link and login details.

Thank you for supporting our RSE curriculum – working together helps us give children the knowledge and confidence they need to grow into happy, healthy individuals.
