We have been thinking about listening to one another and this has been central to creating our class charters which are on display in our classrooms. 

Key Information for Next Week

Wednesday 16th September 2026 is Meet the Teacher for Yr1 - Yr6. This is an opportunity for parents to meet with their children's class teacher(s) and find out a bit about the curriculum. The first session is at 3.30pm and is repeated at 3.50 and 4.10 in case you have children in multiple year groups. There will be a 'creche' so your children will not need to attend. 

Friday 18th September 2026 is Welcome Assembly at 2pm to welcome all of the new children and families to our school community. Parents/carers are invited to join us. This is followed after school by our Welcome BBQ at 4.30pm. This will be held in the bottom playground, whilst works are ongoing in the top playground. 

Gentle Reminders

As a gentle reminder to all families, please ensure that your child adheres to our school uniform policy each day.

Hair accessories must be navy or black, and all long hair must be tied back neatly for health and safety reasons.

Children should be wearing sensible black school shoes, as trainers are not part of our official uniform, and please note that pinafore dresses should not be worn.

Finally, no jewellery should be worn to school, with the exception of small plain studs if your child has pierced ears.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our pupils looking smart and ready to learn.

Our PTA, SWOYSA, will be holding their annual AGM on Thursday 24th September at 6pm. We are actively looking for parents and carers who are keen to join our PTA, helping us to organize many of the exciting events that we host throughout the year. Please do consider joining us and taking on a role, as your support is vital in building our school community and fundraising for the benefit of all our pupils.

Starting Secondary School 

An informal event to ask all your questions about the admissions process and meet staff, parents and students from our secondary schools.

About this event

This is an informal event for parents who are just about to start the application process for their Year 6 child to start secondary school.

Please leave your children at home for this event if you are able to do so, as spaces are limited and we want to let as many parents as possible have the opportunity to attend.

Each session will start with parents given the opportunity to meet representatives from all mainstream secondary schools in Lewisham and find out more about them before the open days start. They will meet staff, and students from all the schools and are able to ask them questions. After meeting the schools there will be a short presentation about the process, and a Q&A with our Admissions Team.

Where: Civic Suite, Catford Road, SE6 4RX - please note there is no onsite parking.

The Secondary School Admissions Manager will give a talk on the process of applying for secondary school at the following times: 4:45 – 5:45 pm / 5:45 – 6:45 pm / 6:45 - 7.45 pm

Please book which talk you want to attend. You only need to attend one talk as they are all the same.

LAMDA Lessons at St. William of York Primary School

Welcome to LAMDA lessons at St. William of York Primary School run by Storybox Drama. Our aim is to empower as many children as possible by giving them the confidence to become strong communicators, performers and storytellers. This leaflet will introduce you to what is involved in LAMDA lessons. Our primary aim is to encourage and develop confidence and communication skills in our pupils and we do this by introducing them to a range of poetry across the year.

At the heart of LAMDA examinations is the recognition that the qualifications are for everyone. Across the globe, the examinations unite learners of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, and cultures in enthusiasm for the English language and a desire to develop skills for life Lessons cost £13 per pupil per session and parents are invoiced termly.

To terminate lessons, a full half term’s notice is required in writing. If you would like to sign your child up for our lessons, please complete the BOOKING FORM HERE. If your child requires Breakfast Club and/or After School Club, we encourage you to book as soon as possible to secure your place.

CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL TRANSFERS 

Parents and carers intending to apply for a Catholic secondary school place for September 2027 admission are asked to collect a yellow priest reference form from Fr Habte or Fr Michael after Mass.   Completed forms should be returned via the Presbytery letterbox, together with your contact details and a copy of your child's Baptism Certificate (if your child was not baptised at St William of York. Please ensure that all documents are submitted by Wednesday 30th September 2026.

Fr Habte will contact families if he wishes to discuss any aspect of their application. We will notify you when your child's Certificate of Catholic Practice is ready for collection. Thank you for your cooperation.
