This week's letter from Mrs Mayers...

Dear Parents and Carers

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our top playground has now reopened following its recent developments! The children have had a fantastic first few days exploring the new equipment and enjoying the refreshed play spaces. It has been wonderful to see their smiling faces and boundless energy as they make the most of these improved facilities. Thank you for your patience while the work was completed - it has certainly been worth the wait!

Throughout October, our school is proudly celebrating Black History Month with a rich focus on inspiring figures across the arts and literature. Every year group has been learning about an iconic writer or artist, exploring their incredible lives and creative legacies: Reception has been studying Benjamin Zephaniah; Year 1 has looked at Dapo Adeola; Year 2 has focused on Floella Benjamin; Year 3 has explored Alma Woodsey Thomas; Year 4 has learned about Lubaina Himid; Year 5 has studied Jean-Michel Basquiat; and Year 6 has focused on Maya Angelou. We will share some of their work in our Weekly Learning Gallery on the newsletter in a couple of weeks.

Finally, we send our warmest and biggest congratulations to Ms. Thorn and Mr. Taylor, who welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Parker, last week! We are thrilled to share that Parker and the whole family are doing wonderfully well. We wish them all an abundance of love, health, and happiness during this precious new chapter.

Warm regards

Hayley Mayers (Headteacher)

Friday Club with Mrs Mayers

This week's Friday Club was... Saoirse, Isabelle, Lena, Yazhini, Laniya, Kostek and Dawid

Well done to all of you! You have been recognised for being ACE and for consistently going 'over and above'

Our Makaton Sign of the Week next week is...

Together

Our Rights Respecting School Article of the Week is...

Article 24 - Health, Food, Water, Environment

We have been thinking about the importance of learning how to stay healthy as children and adults. We have also been thinking about our mental health and ways to help our minds stay healthy.

In Assembly we have been learning about...

The importance of respecting others and the value of working together. We talked about how we respect others and never reject them. Our prayer leaders helped us to reflect on the reading:

"The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone" - Matthew 21:42

Question of the Week...

Would you rather be able to talk to animals or fly?

A crucial part of our 'Real World Writers' scheme is the editing and redrafting process, which can often be one of the trickiest stages for young authors. To help, we don't just ask the children to read their own work aloudinstead, they take turns reading their partner's work aloud to them! Hearing someone else read their words makes it much easier to catch sneaky missing punctuation and spot where sentences could be polished. It gives our writers a true sense of how their work sounds to a real reader. #SWOY #Stwilliamofyork #Catholicprimaryschool #Selondon #Lewisham #Foresthill #SE23 #education
