UN Day of Play
As play is Article 31 we gave our children an extra 31 minutes of play
The sounds of laughter, imagination, and serious building filled our school grounds today as we celebrated the UN International Day of Play.
This special global day is all about recognising that play isn't just a fun break from lessons, it is a fundamental right for every single child. Under Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, all children have the right to rest, leisure, and to engage freely in play. To truly honour that right, we did something a bit special today, and every child in the school was granted an extra 31 minutes of playtime.
To make the day even more exciting, the children came to school wearing their own comfortable clothes, ready for an action-packed day of outdoor fun. We also asked the children to bring in a loose part today, and we were absolutely blown away by what arrived. From cardboard boxes and plastic crates to old tyres, wooden planks, and fabric sheets, the playground was transformed into a hub of pure creativity.
We want to say a massive thank you to all of our parents and carers for supporting this initiative. Your wonderful donations of loose parts have given our lunchtime play kits a huge boost, ensuring that this high quality, creative play can continue every single day, not just on special occasions.
The extra 31 minutes of play left everyone refreshed, smiling, and ready for their afternoon learning. It was a wonderful reminder of just how important it is to let children simply be children. Have a look at our photos below to see our young creators and adventurers in action.
