EYFS

In the Early Years at St William of York, our curriculum is designed to support all children in becoming confident, independent and curious learners. We place children’s well-being at the heart of everything we do, ensuring they feel safe, valued and excited to come to school.  Our approach is centred around building strong, respectful and positive relationships and this is integral to everything that we do.

We recognise that ‘a child’s play is their work.’ We believe that play is a child’s preferred way of learning, ensuring prominent levels of involvement. It is through play that children are helped to learn how to learn and can begin to make sense of their world.

We focus on developing strong foundations for our children so that they are ready to achieve and thrive. Oracy is central in our curriculum design and planning for the Early Years as this helps to unlock the world of learning for our children. In addition to focusing on communication, we also have a strong focus on early reading, writing and number to provide our children with the essential foundations before they transition to Key Stage One.
