Forest School Sessions

There is a special kind of magic that happens when a child swaps a classroom chair for a mossy log and a ceiling for the open sky. This term, our Nursery and Reception classes have continued with their Forest School journey, and the excitement (and mud!) has been wonderful to see.

Led by our fantastic Forest School Leader, Mr. Morris, these sessions have become a highlight of the week, providing our youngest learners with a unique space to explore, take risks, and connect with the natural world.

What is Forest School?

Forest School is an inspirational process that offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

Unlike a traditional outdoor PE lesson, Forest School is child-led. Whether they are building "bug hotels," mixing "mud soup" in the mud kitchen, or learning how to safely navigate uneven terrain, the children are in charge of their own discovery.

Why is it so valuable for our children?

While it may look like "just play," there is some serious development happening behind the scenes:

• Resilience & Risk Management: Under the expert guidance of Mr. Morris, children learn how to assess challenges, like climbing a low branch or balancing on a log, building physical strength and mental grit.

• Confidence: Completing a task in the wild, away from the structure of a desk, gives children a huge sense of achievement.

• Communication: Nature provides endless "conversation starters." From spotting a robin to working together to move a heavy branch, the children are constantly talking, negotiating, and collaborating.

• Wellbeing: Research consistently shows that time spent in nature lowers stress and improves emotional regulation. For our children, it’s a breath of fresh air.

None of this would be possible without the passion and expertise of Mr. Morris. His ability to turn a rainy afternoon into an epic adventure is what makes our Forest School program so successful. He ensures that every session is safe, inclusive, and, most importantly, incredibly fun.
