Wiggly Wild Show Visited SWOY

Our brave young explorers from Year 2 through to Year 6 came face to face with nature today as they met a spectacular collection of giant snails and scaly reptiles. Every student had the hands-on opportunity to handle these incredible creatures!

Today was an incredibly exciting day as we welcomed the Wiggly Wild Show to our school. Students from Year 2 all the way up to Year 6 had the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with a fascinating variety of creatures. Throughout the workshops, the children met an amazing selection of animals, including a chameleon and a bearded dragon, along with hissing cockroaches and giant millipedes. Some children were even brave enough to handle giant snails and stick insects. They learnt that even the smallest creatures have important roles in our world.

Our Year 2 students explored Horrid Habitats where they discovered that what seems gross to us is actually the perfect home for many amazing animals. Year 3 took part in a workshop called Minibeasts vs Vertebrates which helped them understand the big differences between animals with bones and those without. In Year 4, the focus shifted to Rainforests for Real as the children learnt how these incredible environments support such a diverse life. Year 5 investigated the weirdest beginnings in the animal kingdom during their Bizarre Babies session while Year 6 put their scientific hats on for a workshop on Classification.

It was wonderful to see the children engage so enthusiastically with nature and build their confidence while handling the animals. From watching how a snail moves to learning why certain insects are so resilient, these workshops provided a hands-on experience that brought our science curriculum to life. This memorable visit has left everyone with plenty of stories to share and a new appreciation for the wiggly and wild side of our planet.
