Yr1 Cable Cars Trip

Exploring aerial views from the cable cars
Our Year 1 adventurers had an unforgettable day out this week as they swapped the classroom for the clouds, taking a thrilling ride on the Greenwich cable cars. This term, our young geographers have been working hard on their mapping skills, learning all about aerial views, looking at things from right above like a bird, and how to read simple maps. To put their new knowledge to the test, we took a journey ninety metres up into the air over the River Thames.
As the cabins glided across the sky, the children's eyes were glued to the windows. They spotted famous landmarks, pointed out tiny-looking cars below, and successfully identified the twists and turns of the river just like they had seen on their classroom maps. It was wonderful to hear them using their geography vocabulary so naturally in the real world.
One of our pupils, who was absolutely beaming with excitement, declared that it felt like they were flying and was the best trip ever. The behaviour of our children was absolutely exemplary, representing our school beautifully and showing great curiosity throughout the day.
A huge thank you to our wonderful staff and parent volunteers, who helped make the day run so smoothly, for ensuring our geography learning reached incredible new heights.
