Yr1 to Forest School

Yr1 explored different types of leaves at Forest School
Our Year 1 pupils traded their desks for the great outdoors this week as they headed into the woods for an exciting session at Forest School. The trip was a fantastic way to bring their current Science topic on plants to life. Armed with magnifying glasses and plenty of curiosity, our young scientists spent the morning investigating the incredible variety of trees and flora in our local environment.
The main mission of the day was a leaf search, an activity designed to help them notice small details, and students crunched through the undergrowth to collect a range of specimens. They paid close attention to shapes, which ranged from heart-shaped to jagged, and textures, which varied from waxy to soft. Back at their outdoor base, the children turned into tree detectives. Using special identification charts, which helped them spot the difference between various species, they compared their collected leaves to the pictures to work out exactly which tree they belonged to.
From identifying mighty Oaks to spotting delicate Silver Birches, the children showed impressive focus and teamwork. It was a wonderful day of hands-on learning, proving that some of the best lessons happen outside the classroom walls. Well done, Year 1, keep those detective eyes peeled for more plants on your walk home!
