Yr3 to Dulwich Picture Gallery

Yr3 enjoyed their drawing workshops and created some beautiful pieces!

Our Year 3 pupils enjoyed a wonderful trip to Dulwich Picture Gallery this week, an experience that allowed them to step away from their usual routines, to explore the world of fine art. The children spent the morning wandering through the historic halls and found lots of beautiful pieces of artwork, ranging from grand portraits to scenic landscapes, which sparked plenty of creative discussion.

After being inspired by the gallery walls, the group moved into the art studio to complete a practical drawing workshop. They were challenged to experiment with several different ways of drawing, including mirror drawing and continuous line drawing, to see how their style changed with each technique. They also tried blind drawing, where they could not look at the paper at all, and non-dominant hand drawing, which proved to be quite a test for their coordination.

While some of these methods were tricky, the children showed great resilience and had a brilliant time discovering that art is about more than just making a perfect picture. It was a fantastic day of artistic discovery, and the staff were very impressed by the students' enthusiasm and focus. Well done, Year 3, we look forward to seeing you apply these new skills in your next art lesson!
