Yr5 Trip to the Ragged School

Yr5 travelled back in time during their visit to the Ragged School

What a spectacular day we had this week! Our wonderful Year 5 pupils took a giant leap back in time, swapping their modern school uniforms for waistcoats, flat caps, long skirts, and pinafores as they ventured out to the brilliant Ragged School Museum. The children looked absolutely fantastic in their Victorian attire, and they fully embraced the challenge of stepping into the shoes of children from the 19th century.

From the moment we arrived, the time travel began. The children experienced firsthand the strict realities of a Victorian classroom. They sat at authentic wooden desks, practised their handwriting using slate boards and chalk, and experienced what it was really like to be taught under the watchful eye of a traditional Victorian school teacher!

Thankfully, despite a few stern looks from the teacher and a lot of practice sitting up perfectly straight, everyone kept their hands clean and avoided the dreaded dunce's cap!

Beyond the classroom, Year 5 also explored what life was like at home during the Victorian era, discovering the hard work that went into everyday chores before electricity and running water.

It was a fantastic, immersive day of learning that brought our history topic to life in a way that regular lessons simply can't match.

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers for your incredible effort with the costumes! The children looked superb and it truly helped make the day unforgettable.
