Lunar New Year

Nursery have been learning about Lunar New Year

Our Nursery classroom has been a whirlwind of colour and song this week as our youngest learners dived headfirst into the vibrant world of Lunar New Year. At our school, we pride ourselves on celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures that make our community so special, and seeing the children embrace new traditions with such positivity has been a highlight of the term.

We learned that 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse, a symbol of energy, strength, and soaring spirits.

To mark the occasion, the children have been busy learning about the different ways families celebrate around the world, from the lucky red envelopes to the beautiful lanterns that light up the night. The children produced some fantastic art work to mark the occasion.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs. Shanahan, who has been teaching the children a very special traditional greeting. The classroom has been echoing with the sounds of "Kung hei fat choi!" (a Cantonese greeting wishing everyone happiness and prosperity).

It has been heartwarming to watch the children singing the song as they play, marching around the classroom with handmade decorations and big smiles. This early introduction to global traditions helps our children grow into accepting, kind, and culturally aware individuals.

Well done Nursery!
